1 Day (7 hours) Essential Level Training

Training mapped under Te Puna Aonui Entry to Expert Capability Framework - Designed for any person or organisation wanting to upskil their understanding of those living with violence and how to respond safely with empathy and understanding.

Gain insight into family violence through lived experience, looking through a lens from a victim-survivors' perspective as shared in Jude's story.



Matauranga - What is family violence/harm?


  • A sound basic education on family harm and the various  dynamics/tactics used to coerce and control.
  • Understanding the fear involved and the influence, impact and affect this has on a victim-survivor. Identifying what fear-based behaviour looks like and what fear-based decision making sounds and looks like. 
  • Education of various contemporary definitions of family violence including existing societal myths and attitudes relating to family violence. Including why women stay, "Why don’t they just leave?" 
  • Understanding what empathy is and it's importance when working in family violence. 
  • Safely identifying, managing and responding to family violence – an operational perspective.

2 Days (7 hours per day) Entry Level Training

Following on from day 1 day 2 training mapped under Te Puna Aonui Entry to Expert Capability Framework designed to support practitioners working across all sectors supporting anyone impacted by family violence.

Matauranga - What is family violence/harm?


  • Broaden awareness and deepen understanding of the various tactics used to coerce and control.
  • Understanding of the effects of living in the world of family violence and how that plays out in a persons future with regards to their health, education, social development, relationships, parenting, internal belief systems, self-esteem and values. 
  • Build awareness and appreciation for how empathy and mindset play a huge part when working with family violence. 
  • How to engage and connect with a victim-survivor of family violence. 
  • Recognise the importance of understanding and relating to people using violence. 
  • Identify danger signs of escalation. 
  • Understanding the added layers of danger for victim-survivors in the gang world. 
  • Understanding migrant cultures in Aotearoa, and the use of cultural control in family violence.
  • Family violence in our most vulnerable communities - elderly, LGBTQ, people with disabilities.
  • Understanding the impact of family violence on children. 
  • Recognising signs of trauma in children living in family violence.

  • An introspective session designed to challenge participants to critically self-examine their own ‘why’ and how to ensure they are the best version of themselves when connecting/supporting whānau living with family violence. 
  • Understanding the importance of self-care, ways to address your own healing and wellbeing. 
  • Mindset - Tools to reset and refresh and maintain a positive mindset. 
  • Understanding what lies beneath your iceberg?

From $185 per person per day

Plus Trainers travel & accommodation expenses



20-25 participants per session, minimum 15 participants per session
